For Swedes Belgium will be most likely the Kingdom of Beer, Chocolate and Waffles. This while we, Belgians, will recognize Sweden’s national symbols IKEA, Volvo, ABBA and Pipi Longstockings but also the Kingdom of Crystal with the iconic glass factories Kosta, Boda and Orrefors. After researching the field of glass in Canada, Japan, Czech Republic, United Kingdom and Denmark, this exhibition was the 6th solo country show at the glass museum GlazenHuis in Lommel.
SE Glass brought a colorful mix of modern factory design as well as contemporary art, covering more than half a decade. Through the glassworks of 22 Swedish artists and designers we tried to identify the characteristic techniques, form language, use of color and expression of Swedish glass.
